The Middlefield Town Times 1997
RoseMarie Libera Artistic Director at Company 'N Tempo Theatre
& Dance Centre is no stranger to Middlefield and it's beautifully restored Community
Centre. RoseMarie has brought movement programs and performances to the center for The
Levi E. Coe Library since 1994.
An evening of Rhythm Tap (with Megan Morrill Tap
Specialist at C'NT and National Dance Champion 1992) was brought to the center and the
history of Tap was revealed to the audience with some very fast footwork. Other
performances and programs for young people and adults have been made available by Company
'N Tempo. Programs exploring Ballet Performance (ballet instructors at C'NT have
ballet teaching certificates through premier ballet schools such as Hartford
Ballet). An evening of Country Western Line and Partner Dancing have been offered
featuring C'NT instructors. Beginning Ballroom For Adults will be offered at the
Center through the recreation department this winter with instructors from C'NT who have
been running Ballroom classes for Aetna for over 5 years. RoseMarie has established a
repertory for The Middlefield Starlight Dancers. These Dancers work out of the
Senior Center run by Antonette Astle. RoseMarie has created numbers and
choreographed routines to specifically fit the needs of the Senior Line Dancers.
These dancers performed regularly throughout Middlesex County last year.
Tuesday night August 19 at 7:00pm The Company 'N Tempo Dance
Ensemble performed a dance program called "Celebrate the Differences" for Levi
E. Coe's summer project which carried an International Theme. The Company 'N Tempo
Dance Ensemble studies and performs culturally diverse dances. The C'NT Dance
Ensemble has been contracted to perform their program at WorldFest '97 Saturday August 23
at 2pm in Stamford, CT. Students need at least 3 years of ballet training at C'NT
before auditioning for the Dance Ensemble. The WorldFest '97 is featuring over 800
performers from over 42 Countries.
C'NT's Ensemble auditioned and was accepted because of student's
technical ability; the types of cultural dances studied as part of dance education at
C'NT; and, because the performing arts centre fosters the appreciation of and
participation in the performing arts. "Rarely do we feature top 40's songs and
only funky dance numbers or only Broadway Tap numbers consisting of shuffle ball change
flap flap flap while students sprout feathers and wear very tight short
costumes." the Artistic Director explains. "Our Musical
Presentations (offered twice a year) are scripts with themes and plots featuring singers,
dancers and actors. Our students work through a Progressive Program and Syllabus worked
out by the Program Director, Elizabeth Cook and Artistic Director, RoseMarie Libera.
We have a staff of 8 specialists and several resource artists who give workshops for
students during class time or on weekends. Company 'N Tempo is a Company of
performing artists coming together under one roof to give students a change to explore the
performing arts. We've enjoyed our work in Middlefield. I've found the parents to be
very conscientious and concerned and I applaud the school system for including the arts as
an important part of a well rounded education. We really pull away from
commercializing the arts and exploiting children who wish to perform. The staff at
Company 'N Tempo are all members of The Connecticut Alliance for Arts Education. We look
forward to performing and working in Middlefield again this year.
